Bedford Blues and Blues Foundation Christmas Foodbank Collection

Bedford Blues and Blues Foundation announce the date for the return of this years Christmas Foodbank Collection

Following the enormous success of last year’s Bedford Foodbank Collection by Bedford Blues and Blues Foundation at Goldington Road, they are delighted to announce its return on Sunday 12th December 2021.

In 2020, UK-wide charity The Children’s Society estimated 850,000 families struggled with the cost of food due to the COVID-19 pandemic. While restrictions have eased in the past 12 months, high levels of demand are still anticipated.

Local foodbanks – which provide emergency supplies to families in need – are often stretched over the festive period as families struggle to make ends meet. And following last year’s success, Bedford Blues want to again support those in our community while taking the burden off other charities in Bedfordshire.

Both Bedford Blues and Blues Foundation were able to deliver over 21,000 items to Bedford Foodbank last year thanks to the overwhelming support of over 200 supporters in the #BluesFamily, including some of the items most demanded and required; notably nappies, tinned products, toiletries and Christmas selection boxes.

This year they are asking for more of the same to again have as great an impact in the local community as possible, with NGO charity The Trussell Trust anticipating the use of foodbanks to soar to record numbers for the third year running.

Goldington Road will be open for donations between 9am – 2pm on Sunday 12th December. Supporters are asked to make their way to Goldington Road where there will be a one-way system to drop off donations via car or walk in.

All donations will then be delivered to Bedford Foodbank and IMPACT Food ready for the festive period.

Blues Foundation Manager, Tom Harwood said: ”We were so thankful for the support of the #BluesFamily last year, so we are asking again that local people show their generosity and help the communities around them. This will impact on so many people, thank you.”
